How DNS and Virtual Hosting works?

In Virtual Hosting environment how the hosting server knows exactly what is the domain user is requesting?. Because the DNS sends only IP of the hosting server

    actually, the first version of HTTP did *NOT* have the ability to do this.

    However, modern HTTP protocol includes the domain requested as part of the HTTP packet. So the apache server on the shared host IP is able to know which is being requested.
